Another two weeks have passed and I am now at the half way point of the internship. So far I am having a fantastic time and learning a lot!
The main project of the last two weeks has been planning and surviving cloverbud day camp. Cloverbud day camp is a camp that is specifically geared toward kids who are cloverbud age (5-8 years old). This years theme was water so we named the camp "Diving into 4-H." With the water theme we were able to do many different activities and have multiple guest speakers. On the first day we had a gentleman come in and do a stream walk with the kids. If there is one thing I learned from this camp, it is if they are planning in the water they are happy. The kids were able to catch minnows and crawfish in the creek during the stream walk. The next day we took all the kids fishing and on a pontoon ride at Greenbo Lake. The final day of camp took place at Carter Caves where we took a cave tour. Overall I think that the kids had a good time.
One day last week we had the District Tractor driving contest at our office. We teamed up with some of the surrounding counties to set up the course. The course consisted of a tractor and lawn mower portion. I was very impressed with the driving abilities that some the kids had at such a young age. It was also great to meet other agents and interns; and hear how their summer has went so far.
Coming up in the next couple weeks we will be planning for a 4-H Fishing Derby, Farmers Market Appreciation Day, and a 4 week Diabetes Cooking Class.
