Things have continued to be as busy
as ever here at the Floyd County Extension Office. These past two weeks have
consisted of continuing certain programs, taking field trips with the Quilt
Guild, and continuing my special project. I was also given the opportunity to
venture out with the Floyd County 4H Agent, Heather Nelson and helped out at
one of her day camps. Everyone in the office is still packing up and planning
on the big move. We have had some set backs on the moving date, but everyone
has continued to be optimistic and very excited about the move, including the
entire county!
During my third week at the
Extension Office, I went out and about with the Quilt Guild for their annual
field trip. We traveled all the way up to Greenup County and visited many quilt
and fabric shops. We also made one last stop at Hobby Lobby located in the city
Ashland before heading back home. Not only was this trip a blast, it was such a
pleasure having given the opportunity to spend the whole day with the Quilt
Guild women. I also went to the local UPS and continued the weight loss program.
Later on, I helped out at the last “Plate It Up!” Food Demonstrations at the
local greenhouse.
In the fourth week, I assisted with
a Health Fair located at the Betsy Layne Senior Citizens Center and I attended
one of the 4H Day Camps at Allen Elementary. The 4H Day Camps’ theme this
summer is “Bugs, Critters, & the Great Outdoors!” This was a two-day day
camp. On the first day the children played games, did crafts, caught (harmless)
bugs, and made snacks. We all also went out on an adventure around the school
searching for a Sassafras Tree. On the second day, one of the summer helpers
brought her pet rats (the critters) for the kids observe, pet, and learn about
rats and their natural habitat. At first the kids were drawn back at the rats,
but absolutely loved them by the end of the day.
