Busy, Busy, and Even More Busy
What a busy two weeks this
has been. I guess that could be the beginning sentence to every blog I write,
considering I don’t think there will ever be a boring two weeks. Anyways, over
the past two weeks many activities have occurred. My special project for this
summer is organizing a horticulture field day. Last week we went on a farm
visit to the farm where we are having the field day. I look forward to planning
the event. I am in the process of contacting different individuals to be
speakers at the field day. It looks to be an educational day for all who
attend. Also, last week I attended the 4-H agents meeting in Bath County. The
agents were learning about the Access program. On Saturday we had a livestock
clinic for kids to come and learn about their livestock. They learned different
showing techniques, what and how to feed their animals, and other management
practices for their livestock. They were encouraged to bring their animals to
practice showing and grooming them with the help of the adults who were there
teaching them. We had a good turn out and the kids seemed to enjoy the event.
This week, on Monday we had
a teen conference orientation for our teens attending conference. Everyone
seems excited for a fun filled week at teen conference. After the orientation
we had a clean-up day at the barn where we will be having our jackpot market
show later this month. Camp counselor training was held on Tuesday night. We
all enjoyed pizza and learning the do’s and don’ts of camp. On Wednesday we
went to Mason County to help with a corn silage plot. This is something that is
done in 3 locations across the state. They test 25 different varieties of corn.
They look at yield, pest and disease problems and compile data that is
distributed the following year. It was a great learning experience. To wrap up
the week we had a farm visit to the farm where we will be having a beef field
day in a couple of weeks. It was pouring rain, but it still managed to be a
good visit.
I am looking forward to
attending teen conference next week!
To Be Continued,
Shelby Clifford
