WEEKS 3-4, JUNE 2-16
Wow, what a busy past two weeks it has been here at
the Boyd County Extension Office! From camper orientation, Farmer's Market
coupons for senior citizens, various meetings, and most of call 4H camp things
sure have been hectic at the office.
It seems like every spare minute of our time at the
office the weeks prior to camp was full of nothing but camp preparation; from
making cabin boxes, to cutting paracord for the Arts and Crafts class, creating
and laminating nearly 400 maps of the camp, to making cabin assignments- the
excitement of 4H camp was definitely taking over the office!
In-between all the camp preparation there were
plenty of other exciting activities going on at the office. On Thursday the
5th, I completed my most challenging task yet......handing out the 100 chicks
that arrived at the office to the 4H youth showing poultry at the upcoming
county fair. Yes, I Emily Tussey the 20 year old rough and tough barrel racing,
livestock showing, agriculture major am terrified of little bitty
chickens....so having 100 chirping and peeping chicks in my office for an
entire work day was not only loud, but amazing because I conquered my fear! To
say passing out chicks was a day to remember is an understatement, it is for
sure a day at the office I will never ever forget.
Then,
Tuesday the 10th was the day we have all been waiting for- 4H camp! At 8 am,
myself and 7 other adults loaded 100 excited campers onto two school busses and
headed to North Central 4H camp to spend an wonderful week full of fun with 5
other counties; Greenup, Elliot, Carter, Lewis, and Bath. Once we got settled
into camp, the fun began. I had the privilege to help out with many different
classes including, nature, zombie makeup, and I even got to teach a couple
fishing classes. From early mornings to late nights camp was extremely exhausting
but so rewarding. Seeing how much fun the campers had with each activity made
all the long hours preparing for camp totally worth it. 4H camp gave me the opportunity to meet many great people, and make some amazing new friends.
