I have just
wrapped up my 8th week in Robertson County. Time sure is flying!
Last week started off with us having a picnic for all of our volunteers at
Bluelicks State Park. We had the pool and the mini golf course reserved for our
use. We enjoyed a catered barbeque dinner. This is a yearly event for the
agents to say thank you to all the volunteers for everything they do throughout
the year. I really enjoyed meeting some new faces and visiting with others.
We
had a 4-H fitness boot camp with some of the Pendleton county 4-Her’s. We took
seven kids from Robertson County to participate in this event. We started the
morning out with Insanity, followed by circuit training, and then kickboxing.
We enjoyed making tacos for lunch. After lunch concluded we did some stretching
and finished up the Insanity session we were working on. We had a very fun day, however I was very
sore for the next couple of days. I guess it was worth it though.
Our
beef field day was last Thursday. It was a big success. We had a much larger
crowd than we expected. The field day was held at a local beef farm. We had two
specialists from the University of Kentucky who came and spoke. Dr. Kenny
Burdine spoke about livestock marketing and Dr. Ray Smith discussed forages. It
was very informative and beneficial to all beef farmers that attended. We had a
catered meal to top off the night.
We
left for cloverbud camp the next day and boy was that a fun weekend. My agent and
I, along with some others taught a pop bottle rocket class. We spent most of
the weekend shooting off rockets. Our kids enjoyed camp and we didn’t even have
to deal with much homesickness! After attending cloverbud camp I am even more
excited for 4-H camp next week!
I
attended the state Ag agents meeting with Shannon in Covington, Kentucky. It was
nice meeting other agents and getting a feel for what a state meeting is like.
The best part however was attending the Cincinnati Reds game!
This
week is looking to be a slow office week so hopefully I can get a lot done for
the horticulture field day that I am planning. Next week it’s off to 4-H camp!
