          Teen                                                                          Conference

<!--[if !vml]--><!--[endif]--> <!--[if !vml]--><!--[endif]-->Teen Conference was a great experience, it was held in Lexington, Ky. There were over 500 attendees for the Conference. Various workshops, activities, and social gathers were held for youth who have graduated from the 8th grade through age 19. This program was designed to develop leadership & citizenship skills, inspire teens to remain in 4-H. Delegates got to pick different tracks and workshops to participate in for each day. I participated in Jams, Jelly, & Pickling with Mrs. Jones. We made grape, strawberry, and kiwi jelly! It was delicious!

Michelle Nelson and I facilitated a track called College Conversation which was a discussion for the delegates to talk about all aspects of college. We did numerous icebreakers, activities, and discussion. Along with Michelle and myself, we invited Jordan Bramlett, and Kendriana Price.

The S.E.T (Science Engineering Technology) Summer Camp Program was created so that kids can gain hands on experience with science, engineering, and technology while creating projects that can be entered in the County Fair. There are various educational methods, activities, and resources are used for each program that promotes the science, engineering, and technology education. It is caters to the particular age groups and audiences of elementary and middle school students ranging from the age 5-12. For this year’s program we created Terrariums/Dish Gardens, Ice Cream, Pop Can Lamps, and Lava Lamps. With each project there was a lesson that coincides with the given topic.

<!--[endif]--> <!--[if !vml]--><!--[endif]-->The S.E.T Summer Camp Program was established for kids to focus on projects that are related to science, engineering, and technology backgrounds. The general purpose is for each student to learn science so that they can figure how things work. In addition to learning science, another important purpose of the SET Program is for the student is to use what they’ve learned from science to design something to function just as an engineer. Also, using tools and processes to make something work by creating technology is another purpose of the S.E.T Program. Overall, the audience will gain knowledge about various science, engineering, and technology focuses using those principles.
<!--[if !vml]-->At the conclusion of the S.E.T Summer Camp Program there was testimonial evaluation that gathered information post the program. This program was a success because not only did it present a scientific educational background but it also allowed the youth to interact with each other exchanging ideas and brainstorming thoughts about the different topics. They were able to see how thermal energy is used to create ice cream, when a liquid turns into a solid. In addition to that lesson, they were able to connect wires to create electricity to engineer a lamp using a pop can. Lastly but not least, the lesson of how all things work together in the environment are displayed in the terrarium/dish garden activity. All these projects can results possible in awareness of different interest rather than the traditional ambitions.
