Time Flies When You're Having Fun

Week six of my internship has come and gone marking the half way point of the wonderful opportunity. It's the busiest time in the life of extension from multiple farm visits, BC Ag Festival, State KACCA meeting in Cumberland Falls, 4-H horticulture judging, 4-H fashion review, and livestock shows leading up to the county fair starting this week.

The high light from the past couple of week has been the KACCA Annual State Meeting. This year's meeting was held in Cumberland Falls by District 2. Horticulture Agent, Kristen Hildabrand took out on a 4 day adventure to the falls. That week was filled with board meetings with agents all over the state, a tour of the state pen compost unit, bee keeping demo, a raised garden bed tour to a local 87 year old home owner that is still doing the work and up keep to her very own raised garden, seeing a part of our beautiful state at the natural arch, and attempting to see the moon bow. During this week I got the opportunity to meet, and talk to other Ag Agents in KY.
Although I am an Agriculture and Natural Resource Intern, I have been working in all areas of Extension.  I have had the opportunity
to help out with the 4-H Horticulture judging team. I've been helping with horticulture practice twice a week at the Barren County Office with the Horticulture Ag, Kristen Hildabrand. I have learned a lot about different vegetable plants, tress, shrubs, and flowers in just a few short weeks practicing with the junior and senior teams. They will be competing in the area competition coming up July 23rd in Allen County.

To start week seven on my intern the county fair is here and already underway!! I worked the youth beef, and dairy show this weekend to kick start the fair. We had a wonderful turn out for both show with 70 head of beef and over 100 head of dairy cattle. Ag Agent, Chris Schalk, and 4-H Agent Paula Tarry are both over all the livestock shows at the Barren County Fair. I have worked closely with both Agents in planning, and preparing for fair week. When working with Barren County 4-Her's it is always a joy. I loved witnessing the future of agriculture out in the show ring doing what they love best. Having a livestock project teaches a child  responsibility, and helps establish a good work ethic. This coming week is going to be full of excitement, fair events, and busy Agents. I'll keep you posted!
