Time flys when you're having a good time, weeks 11 & 12

Breckinridge County Staff
It has been a great last two weeks here at the Breckinridge County Extension Office. I can not believe my Extension Internship is coming to an end. I've a had a great summer working with a wonderful staff and community. It is diffidently a bitter sweet ending, but I can not wait to see what Extension holds for me in the future.

I started off my last two weeks by judging the Meade County 4-H Exhibits. The next day was a long trip down to Murray State University with our 4-H Career club, I must say the drive was worth the trip. We received a great tour from great professors. Before our tour we met with a few Murray State students and graduates for lunch to discuss their educational and career paths. After lunch I gave them a tour of Murray States Campus along with a friend. We then met with the admissions to discuss finance in college and applying. We then went to the Agriculture building and met with O.L. and Christy for our farm tour. We loaded up in a bus and visit all the farms and the Animal health building.

At our Jr. Mater Gardener program this week we had a visitor, our Family Consumer Science Agent Mrs. Lynnette Allen. We made strawberry jam preserves, where I canned my first strawberries. Our vegetable are really growing, it wont be long and they will all be ripe.

Our Foods SPIN club met to learn how to ice their cupcakes properly. They practiced with different tips and styles until they finally mastered cupcake decorating.

We left early Friday morning to meet with the interns from across the state for our Intern Roundup. We visited Three Chimneys Farm and had lunch together. Afterwards, we had a great meeting with all the inters and specialist to discuss what we had done over the summer thus far.

My Last Week:

Monday, we went to the Meade County 4-H Agent Carole Goodwins home for a fantastic luncheon. I've really enjoyed my time working with the other counties in my district, they have all been a great help along this journey, and I am very thankful for all of them.

Tuesday, we left bright and early for Lexington to visit the University of Kentucky's Campus with our 4-H Career Club. We had a good tour of the campus and also met individually with the Communications and Health Sciences Department.

Wednesday, we had our last Jr. Master Gardener. At this meeting we learned how to make a salsa out of tomato's, green pepper's, onions, and spices. We all enjoyed a little taste testing after our salsa was complete.

I've been in the office a lot working on the final touches to set off the 4-H Career fair for October before my last day. I already have the letters, flyers, and thank yous typed up to be sent out at their necessary times. We had our foods club meet to have a cupcake war to decide which team will be competing at state fair this year. We have two teams and a team of alternates.

Thursday, the staff closed the office for a professional development day. We toured a local community members home. It was a beautiful home with a huge garden that was completely built by the family. After our tour we went to the Patio Restaurant to enjoy our last time together. I ended my day working at our Extension Service booth taking to the kids at the Ben Johnson Elementary Back to School event.

Friday is here and its officially my last day at the office. I believe Alex's recruiting skills for volunteers is getting the best of me, so I doubt if I will be gone for long. I cleaned out my office today and I'm finishing up the flyers and letter for the Career Fair to be sent out. Ms. Anna Smith our District Director will be meeting with Alex and I for lunch. Its been a great journey, but I feel my journey is not over.
