I do not see how this is even possible. I am sitting here at my desk writing my final blog on my very last day as the Garrard County 4-H Intern. The past 12 weeks have flown by! I have had an absolute blast as the intern and I have only increased my interest in becoming a future extension agent. My last few weeks here have been busy as usual, but I have had the opportunity to see more ag related things. I have been on several farm calls with our ag agent Jay. We have been in numerous tobacco patches, where we are still seeing the effects of the week long rain we had. While some look really good, other fields are practically ruined, and everywhere inbetween. I have been shown a variety of different diseases and deficiencies in these plants. I also went with Jay to a Commercial Vegetable Field Day that specialists from the University held. This event was held to inform and educate agents on diseases and bugs that we need to be looking for in our vegetables so that we can be a better resource for the community. I also went on a field call with Jay to look at an orchard here in the county that was expierencing disease issues. We spent time with that producer explaining what he needed to do to fix his problems and how to prevent those from occuring in the future. I also helped Jay and Eric defend our United Way Grant application. Since Eric was new to our office I talked about all the classes I taught at school during the year and all of the day camps and county fair entries. This was a unique expirence seeing the process some counties go through in order to have a larger budget for programming and activities.
Today for my last day, our agents Mary and Jay took me to lunch and we talked about my summer internship and all the good times we have had. I have really enjoyed my time here and can not wait to pursue a position with extension in the future. Farewell and Goodbyes... Until We Meet Again!
